Hi, I’m Ali!

I’m the teacher behind The Chemistry Particle curtain. Thanks for joining me on this science teaching journey.

I have a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry from the University of Cincinnati and a Masters of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from Purdue University.

I have been teaching high school chemistry since 2013. I started out at a rural junior-senior high school and as many rural teachers know, you don’t teach just one subject. I am certified in Chemistry, Physics, and Life Sciences and have taught the following courses:

I believe chemistry is more than just vocabulary and math !

The only course I’ve taught every year is chemistry.  I believe chemistry is really just “electron physics” (I got bonus points in college for pointing this out in class, no joke). High school chemistry is often taught as a combination of vocabulary and mathematics with very little time for actual understanding. Chemistry is tough and many students enter into chemistry already feeling defeated. I started incorporating particle diagrams as a foundational skill in 2014 and was amazed at how much more my students were able to grasp. Their confidence in their understanding soared and so did their ability to predict new chemical phenomena.

I’m passionate about helping our students visualize the particle nature of matter because I have seen first-hand how it can improve student learning. Let me help you do the same!

Let me help you decypher student particle diagrams with my Demystifying Student Particle Diagrams FREE guide.

I can help you stop planning and start teaching without the guilt!
